Prayer That Heals.
Prayer That Heals.
On May 14, 2024, at the Magic Lantern Theatre in Bridgton, Maine, we explored the enduring power of early Christian healing and its promise today. Alex considered the question:
Can We Heal Like Jesus?
Through healing and lecturing, Alex works to enable others to find this same freedom.

Alexandre Fischer, C.S., a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship
Practicing law in France and the United States for several years informed Alex’s practice of Christian Science. The law was not just his job, he says, it was his passion. To Alex, being a good lawyer meant exercising the ability to think precisely and feeling a desire to help others get out of trouble.
During his years as a lawyer, his interest in Christian Science grew. At first, he was impressed by its remarkable healings and resolutions, but as he dug deeper, he found a profound spirituality. He used to believe that religion and spirituality meant accepting a system of beliefs and letting go of discernment and critical thinking. But the more he studied and practiced this spirituality, the more he found that one’s relationship with God requires critical thinking to understand spiritual concepts. These concepts can in turn be applied to one’s life to bring healing.
Gradually, he gave up his law practice to become a full-time Christian Science practitioner. Alex still works to help others “get out of trouble,” that is, to overcome a sense of limitation and to find freedom.
Alex discovered that Christian Science is not just about feeling better or fixing problems. It’s about being willing to challenge one’s world view as entirely molecule-based and soulless, to be open to see the world as spiritually-based, and experience how this change in perspective brings inner peace and healing. Christian Science helps us understand our relationship with God, infinite good, more clearly. Its teachings help us see Christ Jesus' message in a non-dogmatic way, bringing healing, harmony and freedom to our life.

"FINDING TRUST IN A CHANGING WORLD"

Lesley Ruth Pitts, CS
A member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship
It was during high school that the direction of my life changed. Although I was raised as a Christian Scientist, it wasn’t until I experienced the joy of helping someone during a youth club outing that I finally understood what it took to love unselfishly. This set me on a new path. I became aware that nursing qualities of willing service, patience, gentleness, and compassion were expressed all around me as I grew up and that I wanted to live them, too. They’ve woven themselves into every activity I’ve undertaken since then.
For example, I served as a Christian Science nurse for more than 30 years, mostly in the United Kingdom. This work brought me to the United States to work at the Church’s Boston headquarters in the Christian Science Nursing Activities department. Later, I was part of the team that established The Mary Baker Eddy Library. My nursing qualities were put to good use in organizing and caring for its collections -- shared with the public for the first time. I served as Executive Manager and President of the Library for six years.
Mary Baker Eddy wrote the groundbreaking book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which explains Christian Science and how it opens the present applicability and healing message of the Bible. Working at the Library and becoming more familiar with Eddy’s remarkable accomplishments as the founder of a religious movement increased my desire to better practice Christian Science in my own life and help others through my healing practice.
Lack of trust in what used to be reliable sources or entities is common today, but I believe that trust in God is a stronger foundation to base our lives upon. The unusual career path I’ve pursued points to this trust. Relying upon a deeper relationship with God naturally helps us support each other, and to better our world. All of us can contribute in this way as we engage in a deeper relationship with our divine source.

We so enjoyed hearing from Lisa Troseth, CSB in our church auditorium and by conference call Thursday, June 9, 2022.

“What should I do with my life?” I often wondered during my early twenties. I wasn’t sure where I was headed, but I was praying to be of service to humanity. That’s when it occurred to me: If we’re motivated by love in whatever we’re doing, even if our efforts seem small on the surface, then we’ll be living in accord with a power that genuinely makes a difference—the power of God, which the Bible says is Love itself.
At the time, I’d begun to really open my heart to God and was learning from the study of Christian Science that the nature of our divine Creator is infinitely loving and we’re designed to express God’s love in beautiful and unique ways. It’s like each of us, including our daily endeavors, are made to be an artistic tapestry of divine Love.
This idea still inspires me each day to see and treat everyone I meet with love, to acknowledge their God-derived value, beauty, and uniqueness. Christian Science has shown me how letting a truer sense of God’s all-defining love govern how we interact and genuinely care for each other actually leads the way to useful ideas and purposeful action, and improves society as a whole. Since my twenties, I’ve seen how these views have led me, and others, in a variety of fruitful endeavors that bring genuine healing where it’s needed most.
Along the way, I’ve worked with educational non-profits, contributed to community art events, participated in interfaith programs, and served as a Christian Science nurse. I am now in the full-time healing ministry as a Christian Science practitioner and teacher.

Lyle Young, CSB, of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, devotes himself full time to helping others through prayer as a Christian Science practitioner.
In addition to his public healing ministry, Lyle also is an authorized teacher of Christian Science, to help others reliably practice this healing system as well. He has served the Church of Christ, Scientist, (The Mother Church) in many roles, including legislative and media liaison as Committee on Publication in Canada; First Reader of The Mother Church, conducting multiple weekly church services in English and Spanish; member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship giving lectures and workshops in 34 countries; member of the Christian Science Board of Directors, the governing board of the Church; Clerk of The Mother Church; and frequent contributor to the magazines published by the Christian Science Publishing Society.
It’s a deep and broad love that motivates Lyle: a love of God, of the ideas in the Bible and in the published writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and of all humanity. That love and affection for humanity expresses itself in a keen interest in cultures, languages, history, the arts, and sports. Lyle runs and swims regularly and is a four-season cyclist. The latter also relates to his support of environmentalism.
Lyle lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Having served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario Multifaith Council on Spiritual and Religious Care for five years, he feels at ease with those of a wide variety of faith expressions, both Christian and other than Christian.

LEARN MORE ABOUT NATE FREDERICK, C.S.
Nate, is a Christian Science practitioner and lecturer who lives with his wife and daughter in Boothbay, ME. He is one of the many practitioners of Christian Science who dedicate their lives to helping and healing humanity through enlightened, Christ-like thought, and action. He is available 24/7 for prayerful treatment—although the best time to reach him by phone is during his office hours (generally 2-6pm ET Mon-Sat). He works with individuals to overcome physical and mental problems through the power of universal Truth and Love. This includes addressing mental causes of dis-ease and eradicating discordant thoughts from consciousness. It's an unspeakable joy to witness people healed mentally, morally, and physically through Christian Science treatment. This treatment has no bad side effects; Nate recommends that everyone try it! He is always happy to discuss the method and any questions that someone might have. Interested in prayer treatment? Some of my experiences with healing have been published in Christian Science Sentinel and Journal. In addition to praying for people, Nate is currently a lecturer for the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. He also originated a program of two minute inspirational messages called the Daily Lift. Other interests: He loves to play music, cook for dinner parties, hike in far-flung places, play West African Ewe polyrhythmic music, sea-kayak with his wife Laurie, goof around with his young daughter, and just love Life. |
